Nordstrom hosts an incredible Spring Beauty Trend Show every year open to anyone willing to wake up at the crack of dawn on a Saturday morning. Rising that early on the weekend is always easier when you’re going to a beauty trend and fashion show where a fresh cup of hot coffee and tote full of beauty goodies are waiting for you.
Live, upbeat DJ-spun music kicks off the event and sets the mood for a high-energy, entertaining show. Models ranging in age from early 20s to late 60s walk the runway showcasing spring fashion and beauty trends. In between looks, individual lines take the stage to preview beauty trends in makeup, skincare, and hair as they introduce their new products. The entry fee is $20 in the form of a gift card useable at Nordstrom anytime. After the show, each featured beauty line offers amazing free gifts with purchase and complimentary makeup appointments, facials and demos. Some are by appointment and some are first come first serve the day of the event.
Beauty trends heating up right now are Polished Nudes, Rosy to Red, and Golden Days to Sultry Nights. Many spectacular lines such as MAC, Lancome, Trish McEvoy, Clinique, Chantecaille, Laura Mercier, Charolette Tilbury, Nars, DryBar, Bobbi Brown, Estee Lauder, Chanel and more had starring roles in the show. While I was particularly impressed with quite a few products, I am focusing on my most favorites for this post. I attended the show with friends and we had pre-booked makeup appointments with Nars. But first…we got facials.
Philosophy was giving full Microdelivery Detoxifying Oxygen Peels and the line for this particular demo was long, but definitely worth the wait. I’m a fan of Philosophy’s line of facials and peels because most are very reasonably priced for the amount of product you get, and they actually do what they promise. Oxygen is so good for the skin and this peel combines two products in one to deliver the purifying benefits of a detoxifying mask plus the brightening benefits of an oxygen facial.
The peel includes two steps – first is the black layer, which is applied all over the face. Second, is a white layer is applied on top to create a marbly gray and white mask. The mask is left on to penetrate the skin for about five minutes. Then it is removed using a “dermablade,” a small, flat plastic white applicator that is angled up and down to exfoliate the skin and remove the mask at the same time. My skin felt incredible and became more and more radiant as the day wore on. I bought this facial to share with my daughter – detoxifying is important at any age!
Next up…makeup appointments at Nars where we experimented with some polished nude looks. Although I loved the Nars eyeshadow sticks (I bought the gorgeous purple my makeup artist used on me), I am still a devout fan of the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer. I mentioned this is my post about The Art of Effortless Makeup also. They have really nailed this formula in such a big way I don’t think any line I’ve ever tried comes close. It wins beauty awards year and year – in 2016 it won Instyle’s Best Beauty Buys. This tinted moisturizer is so light and hydrating, but still gives the perfect amount of coverage for any redness or blotchiness. They also make an oil-free version for breakout prone skin, and an oil-free primer, which claims to actually help with breakouts before they start. My favorite thing is actually mixing their Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer with the Hydrating Tinted Moisturizer. It evens out the skin tone and gives a beautiful, fresh and radiant glow to the face.
Dry Bar, which has the most playful product names like Buttercup Blow Dryer and Dirty Martini Set, gave demonstrations on their 3 Day Bender Digital Curling Iron and The Tress Press Digital Flat Iron. The 3 Day Bender is an innovative curling tool that heats up in just 40 seconds, and features a patented rotating barrel. It actually turns for you, curling your hair without you having to rotate your wrist over and over again (pretty amazing). It also has what they call NanoIonic™ technology, “a blend of 32 minerals that conduct negative ions which are fused to the barrel of the iron to add shine and decrease frizz with use,” according to the company. It helps set the curl and keeps your look perfectly in place. I have very curly hair so while I did not try out this demonstration, my (very) straight-haired friend was so impressed she bought the curling iron on the spot during her five-minute demo. She has since reported it as being a life-changer to her morning routine as it cuts her styling time in half and produces curls that last for three days (hence the product name). If you curl your hair on a regular basis, this is definitely worth checking out.
Supermodel Body Cream was on demonstration at Charlotte Tilbury, which was, in a word…INCREDIBLE. One of the models in the trend show had legs for days with the most amazing glow and sheen. At the end of the show she informed the crowd of her secret…she wearing this fantastic body cream by Charlotte Tilbury. Product claims to add luminosity to the skin with enriched botanicals and skin de-puffing agents to create an optical illusion of longer, leaner limbs and firmer contours. This cream absolutely delivers and I will most definitely be picking this up in time for summer’s golden days and sultry nights.
The Spring Beauty Trend Show takes place all season long, so you can always find out when your local Nordstrom will be hosting the show.
