90s Fashion Comebacks – Part 1: Levi’s Jeans
“I think Levi’s 501 jeans are the most significant and influential piece of clothing in human history. I can’t think of any other piece of clothing that’s been worn by so many people from all walks of life, either gender, any nationalities, from miners to rock stars; Steve Jobs to Rihanna.”
~ Jonathan Cheung, Levi’s Senior Vice president of Global Design
Little Bit of Background on the Iconic Backside
As I sat down to write about Levi’s Jeans making a big comeback, I stumbled upon this quote and it really resonated with me because it’s so true! So many photos of celebrities from the 1950s and 1960s can be found rocking their Levi’s 501 jeans, and now they’re popular again. And in not a vintage sort of way, but in a kick-ass modern sort of way.

Levi’s Wedgie Icon Fit High-Waist Jean
Levi’s new “Wedgie” fit updated its old-school design, and delivered one heck of a backside. As the description says on the Levi’s website ”these are a total game-changer.” These jeans accentuate the waist, hug the waist with the perfect amount of snug, and don’t stretch out so much that you can’t stand to wear them. Another thing I love about this pair of jeans is how “cool” they are temperature wise. Sometimes jeans with a lot of lycra in them can become very hot, especially during the warmer months. Because these jeans are a return to the traditional denim, there is very little lycra in them. I’ve worn them on some pretty hot days and they feel great. And of course the best part is that the Wedgie Cut Jean holds you bum cheeks up and apart — which is why the derriere of this jean is all over Instagram. They’re doing “wonders for butts everywhere.” Oh and did I mention they’re button fly? Now how can I not share this with the rest of the world!?!
Levi’s Straight-Leg Crop
The straight-leg crop is trending big time this spring with a cut and design that is both easy to wear and flattering. You’ll see this design popping up everywhere from all the major denim designers. The Levi’s version is effortlessly cool and casual. I love the comforable weight of this jean and the way it hugs in all the right places, similar to the Wedgie fit. Levi’s has nailed this concept with their new designs.
Levi’s FlawlessFX Super Skinny Jean
I can’t write a post about denim and not include a skinny jean recommendation. I am a huge (HUGE) fan of skinny jeans. A very reluctant convert when they came back into style a few years ago, I now can’t imagine myself returning to a boot cut jean (and I loved my boot cut jeans). I love how I can really showcase my shoes with skinny jeans, whereas other jeans covered them. I also love how incredibly comfortable they can be, even though they are tight all around. Anyone can wear skinny jeans – it doesn’t matter what size you are – with the right fit and size they can be extremely flattering. I absolutely LOVE the Levi’s FlawlessFX Super Skinny Jeans. The fit is adorable and the pocket placement and size make the bum look amazing.
You really can’t go wrong with any of the new designs in denim from Levi’s. They have so many options and cuts that are flattering on all body types. Of course my current love is the Wedgie but that’s mainly because it was a bit of a deviation for me from my typical skinny jean. You have got to try out these jeans – it will be the best wedgie you’ve ever had.
Case in point: a good friend of mine texted me a photo of herself wearing the Levi’s Wedgie Cut Jeans that I told her she just had to buy and said, “I feel like a real woman, know what I mean?”
Yeah, I know exactly what you mean.
