Maxi skirts are such a chic go-to statement piece that I love to wear in the summer months and well into fall. When it’s hot outside the last thing I want to wear are bulky clothes that stick to my body making me even more uncomfortable. Maxi skirts are always in style and modern trends create fashion-forward looks that are both effortless and beautiful. I’ve listed some of my favorite fresh takes on the timeless maxi skirt.
Look #1 – Graphic Tee + Maxi Skirt
I love how a graphic tee can make a look young and modern. There are so many funky and chic tees out there that express a fashion trend and also reflect personality of the person wearing it. I am a huge coffee lover and also very social, so this “Espresso Yourself “tee is not only stylish, but an extension of who I am. Paired with a high low maxi skirt and lace up sandals, it captures a couple other fashion trend as well.
Look #2 – Button Down + Maxi Skirt
A more structured piece, like a button down shirt, with a flowy maxi skirt mixes two opposites together in a way that just ends up making sense. It’s like wearing a graphic tee with a sequin mini skirt. One is super casual while the other is dressy, but together it takes the look to a totally different level. It’s unexpected…so it works.
Tying the shirt accentuates the waist, which is necessary with a maxi skirt because it’s loose and flowy everywhere else. I paired a soft chambray button down with this striped, layered maxi skirt and rolled up with sleeves for added casual vibes. I also love the classic white button down shirt tied snug and paired with a maxi skirt – such a crisp and chic look for spring and summer.
Look #3 – Tank Top + Maxi Skirt
On super hot days, even a tee shirt is too much with a maxi skirt. And on those days it’s perfect to rock just a simple tank top and a maybe a long gold necklace or bold shorter one. I like a solid colored tank paired with a floral, stripe or other patterned maxi skirt.
It’s such an easy look to throw together but it doesn’t look thrown together, which is what we all want right? To look like we spent an eternity getting dressed when we really spent just a few thoughtful minutes putting something fashionable together.
Look #4 – Crop Top + Maxi Skirt
Crop tops are all the rage right now, and what makes them wearable for those of us who don’t necessarily want to show our midriff is high-waisted jeans, shorts, and of course maxi skirts. I didn’t think I was going to love this look as much as I do, but I think it’s just such a fresh and modern way to wear a maxi skirt.
Crop tops come in so many different styles making the look accessible to anyone. I especially love the fitted crop sweater top with a maxi skirt. It’s my version of cozy chic weaved in with a sexy, bohemian vibe.
Look #5 – Plain Tee + Maxi Skirt
When all else fails and you’ve got seconds to put something together, a plain fitted soft tee, or a bit looser one tied at the waist on one side, is adorable with a maxi skirt. This works with solid colored maxi skirts, and printed ones as well. It’s all about mixing the right colors together, and knowing what is your statement piece.
For the first look below, the maxi skirt is the statement piece with its bright cherry red hue. Coordinating it with a more neutral charcoal tee works, and the leopard clutch brings out the vibrant maxi skirt. The other two looks have patterned “statement piece” maxi skirts and pair together better with a plain tee.
Look # 6 – Denim Jacket + Maxi Skirt
The denim jacket will ALWAYS be in style or for good reason because it really does look so great with maxi skirt looks. Some days it’s chilly in the morning and you need something structured but casual to pair with your look. A denim jacket completes the look without going overboard.
So many ways to wear a maxi to make it modern, fun and sexy. I can’t wait to try out some of these styles myself. Of course I will take photos and share my finished looks. I am all about effortless style, especially during the summer when I would rather be out enjoying the day than worrying about what I’m going to wear. Maxi skirts make this so easy, so chic and so stylish.
